The Deal: Come and work in our offices in Toronto for a few months and start building your network within the social enterprise space in Canada and the United States. We are working on some exciting projects including: making social enterprise accessible across race, class and privlege; scaling up our program which provides follow-up for conferences  and developing the next stage of Occupation: Change the World.

Job: Causeway Social Finance

Social Innovation Generation @ MaRs

The Deal: This is a job that is placed at the heart of social entrepreneurship activity in Canada. The job entails being involved in a project called Causeway which is working to build a social finance infrastructure in Ontario and Canada. This simply means finding ways to fund and invest in things that do good. The job would be run and hosted out of MaRs in Toronto and pays between $41-51000/ year for a two year term. 

+ DreamNow: We have mentioned MaRs before as they helped support the launch of Occupation: Change the World and have played a pretty central role in the development of social enterprise here in Canada. They are a small but committed team that is doing great work. The job would put you in the center of it all in terms of social enterprise funding in Canada. Causeway is also a key component of socialfinance.ca which was started with the help of our friend Karim Harij.

Social Equity Venture Fund (S.E.VEN)

Deadline: Rolling

The Deal: S.E.VEN focuses on finding enterprise-based solutions to global poverty. If you have an idea for an enterprise-based solution and can get it going for $10,000 dollars or under it is worth a shot. They also are focused on funding research as it connects to the problem. Beyond their under $10,000 dollar mini-grant program they have an annual RFP process for larger asks.

Job: Social Innovation Generation, Communications Coordinator

Social Innovation Generation (SIG)

The Deal:  SIG is a partnership between MaRs, The McConnell Foundation, The University of Waterloo and PLAN BC which has the purpose of building, scaling and researching social innovation growth in Canada. The position would be working under their Executive Director, Tim Draiman and with the team at MaRs in Toronto. This is a position with an organization that is a central hub of social entrepreneurship in Canada and an amazing opportunity. 

+DreamNow: DreamNow has worked on and off with MaRs over the past three years on our Occupation: Change the World project, and on some strategic thinking around our Continuum program. Tim is a member of our advisory board and we can vouch that he would be a great person to work for.

Job: Justmeans, New York + London

Justmeans

The Deal: Justmeans is one of the great places to search for a job that ‘makes money and change the world’. They are hiring for a bunch of positions from a European Business Development Director to people for their Editorial Advisory Board. Positions are in New York + London.

+DreamNow:  Just to illustrate how all of this ties together, the founder of Justmeans was the same person that founded StartingBloc, who we mentioned before. We were fellows of the StartingBloc program close to the beginning and got to know Martin and the kinds of companies that he starts back then. The work they have been doing at both Justmeans and StartingBloc has had a real influence on our work with Occupation: Change the World.

The Deal: StaringBloc runs a fellowship program for university students that are interested in Social Entrepreneurship. It is an amazing network and an organization that is well connected to most major players in the social entrepreneurship world. Based out of New York, they are looking for a new Executive Director.  It is a small organization of two staff but has hundreds of fellows each year.

+DreamNow:  DreamNow attended the 2004 fellowship program in NYC. The networks that we built have formed the foundation for the Occupation: Change the World program in addition to introducing us to a number of people that we continue to work with today. Funding: Eileen Fisher Grants

Eileen Fisher Grants

The Deal:  This is a grant for sustainable/green/good-for-the-world businesses that are run by women. They give up to five grants of ten thousand dollars that include mentorship and a training/trip to New York. Lots of cool social enterprises have come through the program in the past.
