Award: Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship

The Deal: Each year the Skoll Foundation presents the Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship to a small number of social entrepreneurs who are solving the world’s most pressing problems.  The Skoll Award includes a core support grant to the organization to be paid over three years and a noncash award to the social entrepreneur that is presented at the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship. The Skoll Foundation has an open application process for Awards consideration.  However, to be considered for the Award, organizations must meet very specific Awards criteria: winners have a tested and proven social innovation that addresses an issue of critical importance and is positioned for large-scale impact.

Award: Exceptional Young Innovators for Social Justice

Grinnell College

Deadline: February 1^st 2011

The Deal: Grinnell College has announced a new program called the Grinnell
 College Young Innovator for Social Justice Prize. Three $100,000
 awards will be given (each $100,000 prize will be split in half, with
an organization related to the winner or doing similar work getting 
half the prize). Nominees can be persons anywhere in the world "under 
the age of 40 who have demonstrated leadership in their fields and who
 show creativity, commitment and extraordinary accomplishment in
 effecting positive social change."

Note that no previous connection to the college is required. Winners can not yet have turned 40 by January 1, 2011.

Awards & Scholarships: Recognize Green Leaders

Earth Day Canada

Deadline: January 31^st, February 28^th 2011

The Deal: Earth Day Canada is celebrating and supporting environmental leaders, volunteers, organizations and small businesses with recognition and financial support, including scholarships, grants and cash awards.

The Hometown Heroes Award Program is rewarding environmental leaders (individuals, groups, organizations and small businesses) who foster meaningful, long–term community awareness and action. Heroes can win one of three Hometown Heroes Awards and a $10 000 prize. Heroes must be nominated by February 28th, 2011 at www.earthday.ca/hometown.

The Earth Day Canada Community Environment Fund is providing financial grants of up to $20 000 to support local not-for-profit organizations, charities and schools in the development and delivery of environmental initiatives in Ontario. Groups must apply for the Spring Grant Period by February 28th, 2011 at www.earthday.ca/envirofund.

The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program is awarding twenty $5 000 scholarships to graduating Canadian high school and CEGEP students entering their first year of post-secondary studies—regardless of their chosen field of study. Students must apply by January 31st, 2011 at www.earthday.ca/scholarship.
