Conference: Green Jobs + Social Innovation Retreat

The Deal: Meaningful Work is offering an opportunity to get involved in green jobs as well as a social innovation retreat, which will include interactive activities, breakout sessions and wilderness walks alongside inspiring professionals and guest mentors.  You will explore a common journey of how you can connect occupation with personal sustainability and create a community of practice.  It will be held at the Kananaskis Wilderness Hostel, with all accommodation and meals provided.

Award: Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship

Skoll Foundation 

Deadline: April 27 2011

The Deal: Each year the Skoll Foundation presents the Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship to a small number of social entrepreneurs who are solving the world’s most pressing problems.  The Skoll Award includes a core support grant to the organization to be paid over three years and a noncash award to the social entrepreneur that is presented at the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship. The Skoll Foundation has an open application process for Awards consideration.  However, to be considered for the Award, organizations must meet very specific Awards criteria: winners have a tested and proven social innovation that addresses an issue of critical importance and is positioned for large-scale impact.

Grant: Vital Youth 2011

Toronto Community Foundation

Deadline: March 30^th 2011

The Deal: The Toronto Community Foundation's Vital Youth grant program supports charitable organizations in the City of Toronto that are working to increase access to high quality recreation activities for youth aged 12-18 years.

Grants support high-quality recreation activities including structured sports, fitness, outdoor education, arts and cultural activities. Priority is given to those programs which increase access, encourage diversity, and develop youth leadership. 

Funding of up to $15,000 is available for programs that meet the Vital Youth priorities, are offered to youth over the course of the year, and start in September 2011.

Fellowship: Youth Leaders Wanted for 5 Months in Borneo

Virgo Productions + National Geographic Entertainment

Deadline: ASAP – trip begins June 2011; short-listing/screening process if selected

The Deal: DeforestACTION is a massive global project to save forests and orangutans in Borneo.  Award-winning Queensland production company Virgo Productions, in collaboration with National Geographic Entertainment, is making a 3D Action documentary about the project – Project Borneo 3D.

The project is looking for 10 adventurous, passionate, and courageous leaders (aged 18 - 35) to feature in the film and a 6-part TV series.

These leaders will live in the jungle in Borneo for 5 months and work with a number of individuals and organizations to report to millions of young people around the world.

Millennium Network

The Deal: The Millennium Network – an organization dedicated to facilitating social change through leadership development – is looking to hire someone on a short-term contract to develop a robust suite of offerings that will form the basis of their Leadership Development Program.
