Conference: Waterlution + Outward Bound

The Deal: Waterlution holds a number of national events under the banner of the Future of Water Workshop Series. They are two-day long workshops where a group of young people between the ages of 20-35 come together, discuss water-related issues and build a community that can help support their future careers and projects. It is a powerful network if you are in the water-related world. This workshop will be held in Alberta in partnership with Outward Bound Canada. Guests include people from the UN Water for Life program and the Enviros Wilderness School. Forty Dollars for both days-- so apply, attend and join the Waterlution network. 

+ DreamNow: Waterlution is a close partners of DreamNow. We are a big fan of the work they do and most impressively the sense of community they create amongst those that attend their workshops. We have been involved in creating the online version of their Waterlution Network through our Continuum Program.

Millennium Network

The Deal:  The Millennium Network is a newly formed non profit organization that has come about because the Millennium Scholarship Foundation has come to the end of its mandate and they are leaving a legacy of thousands of highly-engaged active young people who want to continue networking, meeting and changing the world. The great thing is that the Millennium Network is now going to be available for more than just scholarship recipients. Check out their newly launched website and blog and apply for one of their jobs. Ranging from part time contracts to full time work, they have jobs available for contracts that extend from now until January. 

+ DreamNow: The Millennium Network has been a close partner of ours. We have been involved with the development of the alumni network for the last three years and jointly put on the Secret Correspondence Tour, which enabled us to build forts out of bed sheets in fourteen cities across Canada. Funding: Movers and Changers- $25,000

MTV U

Deadline: October 16th, 2009

The Deal: MTV U is holding a competition called Movers + Changers which is looking for a business idea that both makes money + changes the world. They use TOM's Shoes as an example but look like they are open to any business plan that does good and makes money. The top three finalists get to ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange and the winner gets the money. Unfortunately, the competition is only for US residents.

Jobs: Akilah Institute, Multiple Jobs

Akilah Institute

The Deal: The Akilah Institute works in Rwanda to give young women the skills they need to gain employment and become leaders in their community. They are based out of Washington, but are building a school in partnership with Architecture for Humanity and developing programing in Rwanda. They are hiring for a program, operations and development director. It sounds like a great opportunity if you want to dive right into educational development in Africa. 

+DreamNow: Elizabeth Dearborn Davis is the co-founder of the Akilah Institute and a member of a network of young social change leaders that DreamNow is a part of that grew out of StartingBloc and a group of students at Vanderbilt University.
